There is nothing that I enjoy more than snuggling up on the couch during the holidays with the lights off and candles lit to watch my favourite holiday movies.
For those looking for some good, classic movies to watch, I have created a list just for you!
Check out my 6 favourite holiday movies below (listed from oldest to newest)!
- Home Alone (1990)
Probably the movie that plays the most on TV during December. Home Alone is about a little boy who is left alone in his house when his family forgets him after leaving for France on vacation. This movie is appropriate for all ages and I personally would recommend it for families with kids.
- Miracle on 34th street (1994)
Miracle on 34th street is the most classic Christmas movie for those who grew up in the 90’s. There was the original movie that was made in 1947 but I personally like this one a lot more. The movie is about a little girl (Mara Wilson) who doesn’t believe in Santa but throughout the movie gains back her Christmas spirit. This movie is perfect for the entire family (little kiddies included!).
- Elf (2003)
Elf is one of my favourite movies of all time, being a holiday movie or not. It’s about a boy (Will Ferrell) who grows up in the North Pole thinking he’s an elf. As an adult, he is sent to the US to find his biological family and figure out who he truly is. It’s hilarious and definitely a movie you have to see.
- Love Actually (2003)
Love Actually is the ultimate Christmas romantic comedy. It follows 8 couples and their individual love lives leading up to Christmas. This is a great movie to watch with your friends and family, or with your special someone. I wouldn’t recommend it for children, but anyone over the age of 16 will love it.
- Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
I used to watch Christmas with the Kranks every Christmas eve and for those who haven’t seen it, this is your chance! The movie is about a couple that make the decision to skip Christmas for a year since their only daughter is away for the holidays. Their daughter ends up deciding to come home and they have to get everything set up and put together before she finds out that they were going to skip Christmas. With Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, this movie makes for a good laugh with family and friends – definitely check it out if you want a good laugh and a lot of fun.
- The Holiday (2006)
The Holiday is a movie about two women (Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz) who swap homes for the holidays who both end up meeting the perfect men for them (Jack Black and Jude Law). It is a cute romantic comedy perfect to watch with your friends and family. I would recommend it for anyone over the age of 15.
I hope this list was helpful to you! Let us know in the comments below what your favorite festive flicks are!
