It is beginning to feel like the ’90s in the 21st century. Do you remember what fashion was like back then/when you were a child? You didn’t necessarily have to be in the fashion scene to take note of the commonalities. For example, how almost every kid owned an item from FILA, FUBU or Reebok, to name a few. With Champion being one of the brands that populated the 90’s, it is quite surprising, and honestly unforeseen, that it has resurfaced.
Predominantly a sportswear brand, Champion has been in existence since 1919, but didn’t gain popularity until the 1990 period when they began to make jerseys for basketball and football teams alike. The brand holds that “sports creates camaraderie, builds character, is a part of life – and that a true champion plays and excels for the love of sport.”
Unsurprisingly, much like everything else, sartorialists have found multiple ways to incorporate such pieces into everyday outfits – from using sweatshirts as layering pieces to wearing sweatpants with a pair of heels to achieve an effortless look. Of course, wearing a full set (sweatshirt/hoodie and sweatpants) is also common now. Despite the ubiquity (thanks to endorsements and collaborations) of the pieces in recent time, the brand itself has managed to remain in the low-mid price point till this day. However, due to the apparent increase in demand, it will not be a surprise when/if the prices escalate. It would only be logical to increase the price in order to make more profit. So, if you have your eyes on any of the pieces, don’t waste too much time pondering; it might cost you a few bucks. That said, here are a few to get you started.
