You’ll find this popular Brewery right in the heart of the Byward Market. Here are 5 reasons you need to visit for yourself:

  1. Two Patios

Lowertown Brewery is home to Ottawa’s largest beer garden. It offers two patios; one at the rear, and another at the front of their York Street entrance. It’s a great spot to meet up with friends or colleagues and enjoy a cold beer on a hot day.

Stop by and try their seasonal Blood Orange Belgian Wit. They also make some great Caesars. Mark your calendars because in late September, the Brewery will be turning into an Oktoberfest style beer hall complete with lederhosen and a German inspired menu!

2 ) Plenty of History

Formerly known as the The Commercial Tavern Hotel, the Brewery boasts a ton of history. It was originally built in 1837. It survived buckshot and ball, fighting and frolic for 145 years but was burned down in a fire in 1982. You can read tidbits of the history displayed around the restaurant.

3) Great Menu

Drinks

The Lowertown Brewery is the only restaurant in Ottawa that brew’s its beer on site. Order one of their beer flights so you can sample all different types. The best part is that you can also purchase beer to go when you purchase a meal so you can enjoy their brews at home. They also have some great cocktails like their refreshing Basil Bourbon Lemonade.

Food

The Lowertown Brewery features a variety of their brews in a many of their recipes (e.g., braised, sauces, desserts). The food is delicious and they offer some great options such as their Lowertown Poutine with Pickled Jalapenos, hand-crafted sandwiches. Also popular is their Peanut-crusted Maple Bacon and Hickory-smoked Chicken Wings and more! Their braised and smoked wings are bringing back the old style of uncut wings that made wings night famous in the 90s. The Brewery also have 5 delicious in-house made sauces. If you’re a fan of smoked meat, you have to try Lowertown’s house-smoked meat, a rival to the popular Schwartz’s.
