One Young World (OYW) is a UK-based charity organization that was founded in 2009 by David Jones and Kate Robertson to congregate bright young leaders from all around the world. OYW aims to empower young people with the right skill-set, as well as provide them access to world leaders, and successful entrepreneurs in order to create positive change. These young leaders are called delegates and for the span of a week, they are provided access to Counsellors (or experts), and networking opportunities to grow. At past Summits, delegates were joined by a line-up of Counsellors that included Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Sir Bob Geldof, Kofi Annan, Sir Richard Branson, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Jamie Oliver, Jack Dorsey and Arianna Huffington.
To commemorate the 7th annual Summit, Canada’s Capital, Ottawa, will serve as the host city for the One Young World Summit of 2016 from September 28 – October 1. Over 1,300 delegates will be visiting the Capital along with several accomplished experts, world leaders and media stations. The city will be transformed as if it were hosting the olympics with the assembly of that many people from 196 countries.
On September 27, to launch the Summit in Ottawa, will be a 5K run created by Katie Dolan, past delegate of One Young World, who represented Canada in last year’s Summit in Bangkok. It is appropriately called, “The Home Run.” At 7pm, runners will depart from the Shaw Centre, where an after party will also be hosted. Participants can register for $40 to be part of this event! You can walk or run the 5k down by the Rideau Canal and help raise money and awareness about Statelessness and Refugees.
