On March 17th, you’re sure to see a ton of people decorated in green and sporting some gear in spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. I’m sure you’ll see a shamrock or two. Looking for something to do to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Here’s how you can be a part of the celebrations:
Haunted Walk – The Final Steps of Thomas D’Arcy McGee
On Friday the 13th, a day already filled with superstitions, join the Irish Society for a haunted walk honouring Thomas D’Arcy McGee. Learn about one of our nation’s founding fathers and the details of his assassination on Sparks Street. Afterwards join everyone at D’Arcy McGee’s Irish Pub for a drink. The cost of the walk and party is $30, or you can just join the party for $15. Learn more on the Irish Society’s website.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
On March 14th the Irish Society will host the 28th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Parade kicks off at City Hall at 11 a.m. and then will continue to Bank Street and all the way down to Landsdowne. Get in the Irish spirit and cheer on the parade as they go down the route. The Ottawa Food Bank will also be present and collecting donations along the Parade route.
The Irish Society presents The Grand Irish Party
Join the Irish Society for an afternoon of post-parade fun. It will take place from 12pm-6pm at St. Brigid’s Centre For the Arts at 310 St Patrick St. Beau’s Lug-tread and Strong Patrick on tap. You can expect plenty of music, dancing, and stories. Admissions is $10 for adults, $5 for teens and free for children as well as parade volunteers.

You can be sure that every Irish pub and bar in the city will be bustling on St. Patrick’s Day. At pubs like Royal Oak, you’ll find green beer and a festive menu. Stop by and have a brew at a local pub. My personal favourite is Heart and Crown. If you’ve been before you may have noticed their St. Patrick’s Day Countdown clock that runs all year long. It always has a great atmosphere and good crowd. With so many rooms to choose from you’re sure to have a great time. Grab a pint and join them for live music all day. Heart and Crown is a must for St. Patrick’s Day in Ottawa. Make sure to get there early because this hot spot will fill up quickly!
