After travelling to Italy last summer I developed a new appreciation for one of the world’s most beloved foods: pizza!
Over the span of 5 days I had consumed my weight in dough, tomato sauce and various toppings. When I returned to Ottawa I was officially on a mission to find a pizza that was as similar to the one’s I had eaten in Italy. Last week a couple of friends and I decided to try The Grand Pizzeria & Bar in the Byward Market.
Having forgotten about my mission to find the best, authentic pizza, I ordered my favorite type of pizza: a simple margherita. When it was put in front of me I immediately was brought back to sitting on a patio in Rome, with soft music playing in the background, and pigeons roaming the streets in front of me (lots and lots of pigeons).
The pizza had a very thin base, with a delicious sauce and perfectly cheesy buffalo mozzarella melted on top. For anyone who has had pizza in Italy, you know what I’m talking about. For those who haven’t yet had the chance or opportunity to visit the carb-filled country but want to experience what authentic Italian pizza is like, this is the place for you.
The waiters are extremely friendly, helpful if you are looking for recommendations and willing to adjust meals for you if there’s anything that you want to change.
So head on down to The Grand Pizzeria & Bar, trust me, your taste buds will thank you for it.
