Fuelled by people’s negative perceptions of Canada’s Capital city, Ottawa, as boring, governmental and uncreative, and to squash the idea that millennials are uncreative and unmotivated people, the Wingd team created a visual guidebook, titled, “An Insider’s Guide to Canada’s Capital” that will take every reader on a photographic journey through the National Capital Region (NCR) with a hyper focus on the city of Ottawa. It is set to be released late fall of 2016. However, before its release, you can pre-order the book on Wingd’s official website and get the first 10 pages of the book for FREE.
This guidebook is a 250-page, soft cover book published by a local publishing company in the city of Ottawa, Baico Publishing Inc, located on 280 Albert Street. The book will be released in both official languages and it is divided in two major parts: the first part highlights several travel styles to experience the NCR, some of which include exploring historical spots & monuments, participating in adventurous activities, embracing natural landscapes, and exploring the city through its food and cultural scene. On the other hand, the second part focuses on meeting a subset of about 60 people that live in Ottawa, by showcasing them through photographs and short interviews/narratives.
In addition, the book opens with a foreword from the Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, and concludes with an afterword by the Minister of Small Business & Tourism, Honourable Bardish Chagger. Present in the book is also a plan for the future of the Capital provided by the National Capital Commission / Commission de la capitale nationale (NCC/CCN).
Other people that have supported the book include Premier of Ontario, Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sports, Hon. Eleanor McMahon, Ottawa Tourism and One Young World Ottawa.
To celebrate the end of a 2-year book-building journey, the Wingd team will be hosting a FREE pre book launch event on Wednesday, August 10th at Lowertown Brewery located on 73 York Street in the heart of the Byward Market in Ottawa. Event starts at 6pm, and some key confirmed guests and speakers include Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, CEO of National Capital Commission / Commission de la capitale nationale (NCC/CCN), Dr. Mark Kristmanson, President of Media Action Média, Amanda Parriag, Ottawa Running Ambassador, Noel Paine, Canada Director of One Young World, Antoine Pouliot, founder of Ottawa Boomers, Christine O’Grady, as well as the founder of Young & Awesome Ottawa, Nabil Imani.
