We have all have to let go of things throughout our lives on this planet. Whether a pet, a friend, family member, boyfriend/girlfriend, or even simply graduating high school, we are constantly ending chapters in order to start new ones.
Though age and experience can make it a little easier to let go and move forward, completely letting go and allowing ourselves to heal and look to the future with optimism and excitement can be difficult to achieve. Our tendency can be to focus on “what used to be” and idealistically hold on to the past as if it had everything we ever wanted.
The problem with this, however, is that it ultimately causes more suffering. It doesn’t encourage growth and it doesn’t help us move forward. We have to learn how to find a balance between grieving as we need to and focusing on where we are now and what we want to have that we couldn’t before.
Within my own life I have found that when I have focused too much on things in the past that have hurt me, I spiraled into a deep sadness that was tough to climb out of. My negative thoughts consumed me, and it was very tough to get myself back into a positive head and heart space. I am here to tell you that I know what it is like to hold onto things that need to be let go of. I believe that we humans are like trees. Just like a tree, in order to change and grow into something beautiful, we must let go of our leaves (the leaves being a symbol for things we must let go of).
In order to personally let my leaves fall and not hold me back from growing is by crying. I cry and surrender the broken pieces of my heart to God. Not everyone surrenders to God because not everyone believes in God. I do believe that everyone has their own way of letting their leaves fall, and that is fine. What is important here is figuring out what helps you best.
What are some things you need to let go of today? This is not to say you will NEVER think about them ever again, but it does mean you need to let go of them to properly move forward and experience what life really has to offer you. There is so much happiness, joy, laughter and fun on the other side of what you are struggling to let go of.
When you let go, you make space for something better.
You know you have achieved one of your happiest moments when you have let go of something you cannot change. When we beat ourselves up over things that cannot be changed, we live in a dark place. I want you to know that you are not alone if you are having trouble letting your leaves fall– we are imperfect human beings that can be very weak at times. Do not let your weaknesses consume you and leave you stranded. You are strong and you can let go of things that are meant to be left behind you.
Letting go can be hard, but holding on can be even more hard, stagnating your growth in life. I am sending you all love and prayers as you get on the road to letting go. You can do it. Let go, and let the universe flow.
